Lately, I have been drawn to metta meditation.
Metta meditation, also known as a lovingkindness meditation is a practice where the focus is on sending positive intentions inward and outward.
One may begin with self, then move to loved ones, pets and animals, acquaintances, challenging people, community, the worlds as whole. One may also do the meditation in reverse starting with the big and moving within.
Starting by coming into the breath the words below can be said aloud or in your head. My preference is to say them aloud.
May (you/they/I) have peace
May (you/they/I) know love
May (you/they/I) feel safe
May (you/they/I) have health
May (you/they/I) know happiness
You can also choose to pick just one or two areas to focus your attention on.
This month I have been practicing my metta meditations with one particular person in mind. I have committed to a daily practice of bringing that person into my heart and into my mind and send out lovingkindness to them.
Imagine the world we could create if we all directed a little more lovingkindness into the world.
